Therapeutic Yoga presented by Kerri-Anne
Many adults suffer from chronic or persistent neck pain; research estimates as much as 10-20 percent of the adult western population. The most common cause of upper back and neck pain is stress on muscles and ligaments stemming from poor postural habits, often related to our technology-centric, stressful, sedentary lifestyle. Other causes include aging, chronic illness (e.g. asthma, arthritis) and common side effects from surgery (e.g. upper chest).
Gentle movement and breath practices can be used to improve or maintain posture and the health of your respiratory system. In general, asanas (postures) that move your spine in all directions, and that stretch and strengthen the muscles around your upper torso will help to support your respiratory system.
This programme is for anyone who feels they would benefit from personalised instruction and assistance in developing a home-based practice with a particular focus on the upper spine and airway. Practices will be modified to suit your specific requirements.
You do not need to have had any prior experience of Yoga or fit any stereotypical idea of what a Yoga practitioner looks like. Classes are inclusive of everyone. Standing and reclining postures can be done seated.
Regular and consistent practice is key to the overall effectiveness of these techniques. To reinforce the learning and provide a framework for continued self-regulation, all participants will be provided with short, simple practices and tools for use at home.
Please contact me either by phone or email if you would like to discuss your participation in this programme.
