Flourish with Yoga

Yoga with Tammy

Popular perceptions of yoga can be a barrier between you and the yoga mat. Self-confidence, physical limitations, and misinformation may create hesitation or even apprehension with thoughts like "I'm not flexible" or "I don't know enough". The truth is, if you can breathe you can practice yoga. My yoga classes begin exploring yoga collaboratively - together we will create a sequence that works for you - and realise the benefits of consistent, informed practice. With two decades of experience, I can help you create a yoga practice for your unique life circumstances, including prenatal, postnatal and mindful movement.

My classes begin with the physical practice of yoga called "asana". Asana cultivates a physical awareness of the body. We carry our experiences within our bodies. Over time, our experiences effect how we feel in our bodies and how we experience life - tight in some places, strong in others. While much physical exercise is a "work out", asana practice is a "work in",  aiding our understanding of, and connection to, the body. Once we embody the body with this awareness, we begin creating physical balance. We feel better, more comfortable and more easeful through this understanding and connection.

The physical yoga practice also cultivates mental awareness. The mind can be anywhere and in any time - reminiscing in a past memory or dreaming of a future event. Consequently, we spend a lot of time outside of the present moment, effectively disembodied. By bringing our attention onto the physical body we also bring the mind into the present moment. This has a calming effect on the body and the mind, reducing stress and instilling a feeling of greater well-being. Once again, we are creating balance by understanding what is actually happening here in this body, now in this moment.

Practicing postures on our mat prepares us for our practice off of our mat. Asana work requires patience, attention, dedication, discipline and compassion. When we cultivate these qualities inwardly through on-going practice, we also share them in our interactions with others. In this way, our practice extends balance and well-being into our community.

We are part of a bigger picture. We contain multitudes. Yoga practice guides an inner journey on a path to flourish.

Investment:

Yoga is a process and a practice that takes time for growth and development. My intention is to collaborate with you throughout this journey. I offer yoga courses throughout the year (found here) or private sessions.  Private sessions begin by scheduling three sessions. The initial session is approximately 90 minutes, during which we will discuss knowledge in relation to prior yoga experience, lifestyle, and intentions, as well as any concerns and/or questions. The next two sessions will be 60 minutes in which we design a practice for your unique requirements.

Each session is complete with a digital copy of your unique practice.

Sessions may be held in the comfort of your own home or an alternative location.

Base fee:  (dependent upon venue and/or travel )
From $150 for 3 initial sessions*
From $50/one hour session thereafter

I also offer instruction for small groups. Contact me for more details.

* current students wanting individual work may not require the 3 initial sessions
