Yoga Therapy with Kerri-Anne
Yoga Therapy is the application of Yoga for therapeutic purposes and as preventative medicine. It combines Yoga, Ayurveda and western science knowledge.
Yoga Therapy compliments western medicine and other physical therapies rather than replaces them. A Yoga Therapist or Therapeutic Yoga Teacher works together with their client to help them reduce or manage their symptoms and improve function. Sometimes the Yoga Therapist or teacher may guide the client to a deeper understanding of how habitual patterns of movement, thinking and/or lifestyle choices are contributing to their health.
A minimum of three consultations are required for the purpose of working therapeutically with a client. Exceptions may be made for particpants in my group classes or regular students.
Depending on your individual circumstances, these services may meet requirements for financial support from government health organisations and other not-for-profit entities. Please ask if you think this may apply to you.
The personalised programs that I offer will generally include a breath-centred movement practice and breathing exercises. At the first consultation we will discuss your specific health concerns, whether you are under the care of a health professional, and/or receiving any treatment. We will talk more generally about life style, daily activity and any pre-existing injuries. If you are unsure about participation because of specific health issues I am happy to speak with your health practitioner/s.
I will then provide you with short and simple practices to do at home. For subsequent sessions we will review your personal experience in relation to the practice and modify as necessary.
